The problem

Reasonable comp is where audits start.

Most firms either underpay attention to it or overpay in billable hours getting it right by hand.

RISK

A guessed salary is an audit trigger

The IRS has reclassified distributions as wages for years when compensation looks arbitrary. A number with no methodology behind it is the first thing an examiner questions.

TIME

Spreadsheets don't scale past one client

A custom model built for one S-corp doesn't transfer cleanly to the next. Firms end up rebuilding the same logic, client after client, in slightly different ways.

TRUST

Owners can't see the "why"

A number handed down without explanation reads as arbitrary to the client too — and an unexplained number is harder to defend if they're ever asked about it directly.

The platform

Six modules. One methodology.

Each tool produces a number, and shows exactly how it got there.

Why trust the number

Methodology, not magic.

01

Cost Approach to reasonable comp

Salary is built bottom-up from hours and role, not estimated as a flat percentage of profit.

02

BLS wage benchmarking

Role rates are weighted against published Bureau of Labor Statistics medians, adjusted for geography.

03

Current-year IRS rates built in

Mileage, home office, and substantiation deadlines stay current without you tracking rate changes by hand.

04

Built by a practicing tax professional

Every module reflects how this work is actually done in practice, not how a generic calculator assumes it's done.

Scope of the platform

PassThrough Engine provides general tax information and modeling tools for educational and planning purposes. It does not constitute legal or tax advice and does not create a CPA-client relationship. Pricing

Two billed comp reports covers the year.

Firms bill $400–$1,200 per reasonable compensation report. Every plan includes unlimited client logins — your clients' access is part of your subscription, never a separate charge.

Questions

Asked before you had to ask.

Is this tax advice?
No. PassThrough Engine is a modeling and documentation tool for planning purposes — it computes numbers and shows its work, but it doesn't file anything, pay anything, or replace the judgment of a licensed professional. Every export says so, too.
Who is it built for?
Tax professionals — CPAs, EAs, and unlicensed preparers — and the pass-through business owners they serve. Firms manage a full client roster from one dashboard; owners get a guided version of the same calculations and can link to their firm with a code.
How is my data protected?
Every account uses real authentication with email verification, and data isolation is enforced with row-level security at the database layer — the database itself blocks cross-account access, independent of the app code. We're early-stage and haven't yet completed a formal third-party audit, and we're straightforward about that.
Does it move money or file returns?
No, by design. Payroll and estimated-payment modules compute amounts, deadlines, and documentation, then point you to where payments are actually made (EFTPS, IRS Direct Pay). You keep control of every dollar.
Where do the numbers come from?
The Cost Approach for reasonable compensation, BLS wage benchmarks, and current-year IRS rates and thresholds — every figure in the app has a "how was this calculated" breakdown showing inputs, formula, and what's excluded.
Do my clients pay separately for their access?
No. Client logins are included in every plan, unlimited, at no per-client charge. Your clients get their own guided view — expense tracking, their savings dashboard, their quarterly schedule — as part of your subscription. Their access is a feature of your service, not a second bill.
Can I try it before creating an account?
Yes — the demo requires no signup and resets itself, with sample data across all six modules. When you're ready, a real account takes about a minute.
